The wife persistently refused to resume cohabitation, deprived the husband of matrimonial consortium, and demanded an exorbitant lump-sum amount of ₹2 Crores as a condition for consenting to divorce.

The High Court held that a spouse who persistently refuses cohabitation and conditions consent for divorce on an exorbitant financial demand (₹2 Crores) subjects the other spouse to mental cruelty.
