The Family Court directed the father to maintain an ₹11 Lakh fixed deposit for the child while simultaneously ordering him to pay separate monthly child maintenance.

The Calcutta High Court held that while a father may voluntarily create a fixed deposit for a child's future, he cannot be compelled to maintain a substantial fixed deposit and simultaneously pay periodic monthly maintenance, as imposing dual liabilities is legally unsustainable.

Relevant provisions: Section 125 CrPC (Section 144 BNSS, 2023)
